Dear Republicans,
We lost the battle.
Now move on.
We have work to do, and very little of it actually has to do with the government and Joe Biden. We need to repair our party and begin to be better.
Damage has been done and I am disappointed in so many of you. In two weeks we have ruined the legacy of possibly the greatest conservative President in history. No longer will Donald Trump be remembered for any of the things he did. His legacy has been defined by our behavior, and it has been less than stellar.
Whether you believe the election was “stolen” or not, the conduct of so many of you has been shameful. Storming the Capital was one of the lowest things that could have ever occurred. Even if the capital hadn’t been stormed, the protest that was being held was completely unnecessary. Some of you decided that sinking to the level of BLM was going to somehow solve our problems.
How are we supposed to unite when you are running around like a dog barking at the wind. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is filled with so many of you yelling unsubstantiated claims about your vote being “stolen”. What are you accomplishing other than making a fool out of yourself, the Republican party, and the President that we loved?
Answer: NOTHING
Your Facebook post is worthless, and so are most of your words. Action is not standing in a protest, wearing a MAGA hat, posting on social media, or having a bumper sticker. Taking action is getting educated about the beliefs you have. It is repairing a relationship with your democrat neighbor. It is having a civil debate where you listen as much as you talk. These are how we are going to repair the name of conservatives, and hopefully pave the way for the next republican in line.
Now this does not mean that we shut up and sit down. In fact we need to do quite the opposite. We still need to fight for what we believe and what is right. This means tangibly making a difference in your community. If you a pro-life, go volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center. You could run for a local government position, donate to the NRA, or sign up to volunteer for a congressman’s campaign. If you are older, talk with young people and help guide them and teach them.
And most importantly: Pray for our leaders, and our country
This is what “taking action” looks like. It is speaking with your time and money. Most of us do not actually have the power to change anything, but we can give our time and money to those who can. The best defense we have is getting educated. Give every opinion a reason, and know how to eloquently speak your mind.
We need to be better than the opposition. Not in opinion, but rather in conduct. Instead of spending the next four years screaming about an “illegitimate election” and starting another “not my president” campaign, we need to move on, accept reality, and stick to our word. We all said that we would never behave the way the democrats did during the Trump administration, and now I am watching so many of us be the same hypocrites we spent four years condemning.
That is no way to get our voices heard.
I know you are scared. I have my concerns as well, but we cannot allow our fear to overcome who we are and how we behave. We need people who are brave enough to be themselves and be unapologetically conservative in their everyday lives. If we retreat we become strangers to the world and our voices will slip into silence.
We will make it through this. Together.
Sincerely,
Your Fellow Republican
